Donor: Dr. PJ Venter, 1980; 0,20m; 2 vols.; transferred to A460. In 1930 Pieter Johannes Venter was transferred from the Department of Justice to the Cape Archives Depot. In 1943 he was appointed chief of the Natal Archives Depot and in 1944, having been promoted to the rank of assistant chief archivist, he became chief of the Cape Archives Depot. He resigned from the Public Service as from 1 September 1955. He was a prolific writer of professional literature, having written, inter alia, the following articles: The Destruction of Records in South Africa (Archives Year Book 1938, I) and The Control of Modern Departmental Records and their relation to the Archives (Archives Year Book, 1941, I).
