Title to long - truncated: Anglo-Boer War 1899 - 1901. View of Greenmarket Square, Cape Town on Mafeking Day showing crowds, flags, etc. The Raadsaal (Town House) and Methodist Church can be seen in the foreground. Next to the church is the Temperance Hotel, previously the London Hotel which originally had been a Cape Dutch town house with gabled "dakkamer". In this photograph the original Cape Dutch steps with railing which led to the front door has disappeared and been replaced with a full-length veranda. Underneath at ground level the cellar appears to have been turned into shops.
