Commitments of the NAAC

The current Council is committed to ensure that our archival and records management services continue to underpin the democratic values of our Republic. These include respecting and preserving our past but also in rising to the challenge of an archives and records management service functioning in a world of new needs, such as changing communications technology, data storage, forms of media, and legal concerns of the protection of information as well as of the right of access to information.

The Council is also committed to accessing and recording for posterity the archival and oral histories of the majority of the people whose lived experiences have not previously been captured in formal documentation, so as to restore a fuller account of the rich, diverse and complex history of our country and its place within the Southern African Region.
