Activities of the NAAC over the Past Year
It has held regular meetings, both of the full Council and of its Committees (Strategy, Finance and Ethical Matters; Legal Matters; Records Management); held a Strategic Planning Workshop; and has visited several Provincial Archives so as to meet with the relevant stakeholders.
The NAAC is working closely with the Acting National Archivist and her staff on several vitally important issues. These include:
- Revisions to the National Archives and Records Services of South Africa Act (Act No. 43 of 1996) as amended by the Cultural Laws Amendment Act 36 of 2001;
- An enhanced awareness of the vital historical and governance functions performed by the National Archives and Records Service of South Africa amongst the public and across state departments and entities which fall under the Act; and
- Fulfilling our mandate in terms of the Act, especially in terms of Section 4 and 10.
