Rehoboth Basters, originally from De Tuin area, northern Cape, crossed Orange River together with Rheinisch Missionary Heidmann in 1868 to find new home. Appointed Hermanus van Wyk as captain in Warmbad in 1869 and elected Volksraad to assist him. Established themselves at Rehoboth in 1870, drew up constitution (so called Vaderlike Wetten) for government of the people in 1872.
