Pietermaritzburg The PAC was founded in Soweto, 6 April 1959, by Mangaliso Robert Sobukwe. Multiracialism as advocated in the Kliptown Charter of 1955 was rejected, and an Africanist policy, particularly as regards land, pursued. Greater state control of the economy was advocated. The PAC was banned in 1960 after Sharpeville. Poqo the militant wing of the PAC emerged subsequently as Apla to continue the armed struggle. The negotiated interim constitution was rejected by the PAC as entrenching past injustices. They however, participated in the National election of April 1994.
