John Lake Crompton (1815 - 1889) was an Anglican clergyman at Pinetown and a leader of the campaign against Bishop JW Colenso. He married Harriet Phelps in 1828. The following children were born out of this marriage: Theodore (1855 and died at birth), Eustace (1857 - 1933), Bede (1859 - 1934), Beatrice (1861 - 1944), Mary (1864 - 1948), Agnes (1866 - 1930), Harriet (1868 - 1904), Cecilia (1870 - 1919), Katharine (1871 - 1877) and Godfrey (born 13 May 1873.
