African Regional Committee

Background
 
The Interim Africa Regional Committee was established during the 8th IAC meeting which was held in South Africa in 2007. The African Regional Committee (ARCMOW) was endorsed in 2008 and committee members appointed. They were:
 
President – South Africa;
Deputy President - Kenya; 
Deputy President - Mauritius;
Deputy President - Senegal;
Deputy President - Mozambique;
Deputy President - Algeria; and
Secretary-General - Namibia.
 
This committee served for 4 years and in terms of the constitution was re-elected for a further term of 4 years.
 
The strategic objectives of ARCMoW are to:
 
  • Identify documentary heritage in Africa;
  • Raise awareness of Africa’s documentary heritage and the importance of preserving this heritage as currently there are only 8 National Committees in Sub Saharan Africa;
  • Promote access to this heritage; and
  • Encourage participation by membership countries.
 
The African National Committees consist of:
 
  • Central African Republic;
  • Cote d'Ivoire;
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo;
  • Gabon;
  • Kenya;
  • Malawi;
  • Mali;
  • Mauritania;
  • Namibia;
  • Nigeria;
  • Senegal;
  • South Africa;
  • Seychelles;
  • Uganda; and
  • Zimbabwe.

Ethiopia =  1 - 1997;
Ghana = 1 - 2011;

Mauritius = 2 - 1997 and 2015;

Nigeria = 1 - 2017;
Senegal = 3 - 1997 and 2015;
South  Africa  =  5 - 1997, 2003, 2007 and 2013;
United Republic of Tanzania = 2 - 1997 and 2003; and
Zimbabwe = 1 - 2015.
